The first week of the Omer count relates to Chesed on the right column of the “Tree of Life” diagram. The right side of the tree has to do with related themes such as; expansion and ‘force’ (versus ‘form’). The initial Sefirot of Chesed (at the top of the right column) is especially associated with the idea of being ‘proactive.’
As such, we’re going to begin with an imaginative approach (albeit the most ‘traditional’ of our ‘seven views’) by looking at the different attributes as revealed in the lives of seven Biblical figures. This is a specific group, who are called the ‘Ushpizin’ (guests) during the holiday of Sukkot.
They are, in order:
- Abraham
- Isaac
- Jacob
- Moses
- Aaron
- Joseph
- David
It is a tradition to ‘invite’ one of these guests into your sukkah on each of the seven days of Sukkot, for similar reasons as we’re doing here with the Omer count. The goal is to ‘expand’ our thinking regarding each of these people and how we can apply their attributes into our lives.
